In the Assembly the Premier stated he had received information bhab the New Ausbralia setblers were in an exbremely necessitous condition. The Government had already expended over a thousand pounds in assisting settlers to return to Australia and did nob intend to bake any further steps in the matter unless proper evidence was produced that charity was justified.
