License. —An application by G. D. Black for a driver's license was referred to the Legal Commibtee wibh pow6r to act. Drainage.—The Auckland Cycle _W pany wrote complaining that the drain waa defective in Customs • street East, th ß result being bhab the cellar was flooded N after heavy rain.—The Engineer reported bhe sewer was all righb, bub the fault was thab people consbructed cellars below tbe water level.—A reply was forwarded hi accordance with bhe above.

An Expired Lease.—Mrs Paul wrote asking for compensation because her leu, had expired.—lb was resolved to reply thab bhe Council had no power bo accede to the requesb..

Permit.—An application was made by Mr W. Thorne to be permitted to make additions in wood to a house situated at the corner of Symond-streeb and the Albert Park. Cr. Courtney moved that permis.ion be granted as ib had been allowed to others. C. Sherman also wrote asking permission to make certain alterations. Mr Smith's Claim.—Tbe AuditorGeneral wrote stating with regard to the Council inquiry as to whether the office would objecb to the Council making » compassionate allowance of £75 to Mr Smith, whose premises were damaged by the bursting of a water main, that the Council had no power to granb such an allowance.—lb was resolved to reply ac cordingly. yi

Merry-go-Round.—With regard,to Mr T. Hill's application bo be allowed to ereot a merry-go-round on Mr Nathan's property in Pitt-streeb it was resolved tq rescind the mobion refusing ib, and s mobion was passed granting the request: .

Boyle re driver's license : Your Commibtee hag authorised renewal of license Letter from Samuel Yaile and Sons, offering 250, acre. land, Surrey Hills, for Park : Your Corny mibtee reporb bhab bhe public feeling being againsb any increase of rating, and bo money available for purchasing a park, and thab any money borrowed would mean a consequenb increase of rabing, no action can be taken. Memo, from Town Clerk re annual insurances : Your Commibtee recommends bhab insurance be renewed for bhe sum of £41,480 at a premium of £154 14s 6d. Memo, from Engineer re removal of dusb and refuse ; Your Committee recommends bhab Mr Casey's offer to find a depot ab £100 per annum, and to continue ac heretofore the removal of dust, etc., be accepted, such arrangement to be determinable ab six months' notice on either side. ' Arthur-street.—lb was resolved to call benders for drainage work authorised ia .' this street. ■- ; v Library.—lb was resolved to close the Public Library from the 7th to 14bh for the annual sbockbaking and cleaning down. Fire Brigade Unikorms. —The tender of Messrs Hallensbein Bros, was accepted for Fire Biigade uniforms ab 67s 6d each. Boring at Western Springs.—Cr. Hew« son moved, " Thab bhe bore in the »J>aft ab,-. ; bhe Western Springs be cleared."—Tbe mover contended that the results so far bad been very satisfactory. As about £400 had been expended in theee teats, he thought Jt>; only ii„hb bhab bhe matter should .be thoroughly done.—The mobion was then adopted.
