GREAT WAITANGI COLLIERY.
A meeting of persons interested in the' formation of a company for the purpose of purchasing the above property was held yesterday afternoon in the offices of Messrs, Calder and Goldwater, Vicboria Arcade. Mr G. S. Budge presided. Mr Shepherd, mining engineer, explained that ib^waa proposed to secure and develop the colliery, with a view to placing it on the .English markeb. A tramway would be built from the mine bo the sea, a diotance of four and a-haif miles, and this would nob only avoid' the expense of taking the coal down the river or by bbc train, but would save ib from being handled too much, and bo depreciated in value through breakage. A good deal of work bad already been done in the mine. A seam of an average thickness of six feet had been opened up, and the coal was quite free from impuritieß. I&wwat9 t resolved to form a syndicate to further de-] velop the property, with a view to placing ib on the English markeb. The capital was fixed in 60 shares of £25 each, 20 shares to be retained by the vendors, and 40 shares bo be offered bo the public.
