CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
This usual fortaightly meeting of the above Covnmittee was held last evening, .when there were present: — Messrs J. Blades (Chairman), R. Farrell, J. T. Julian, R. Flicker, G. Squinel, J. Fairs, P. Crowe, J. Adams and Dr. T. King.
Accommodation in the Schools. —It was resolved to ask the Board of Education to divide one of the class rooms iv Beres-ford-streeb School with a partition, and also to remove the gallery for infants at the Napier-streot School and place ib in a more suitable position.
Napier-strbkt School. —Ib was decided to ask the Board of Education to put a dwarf concrete wall along the western boundary of bhe Napier-sbreet school yard, and an iron grating over the cesspit at the entrance, the object being to prevent storm water running under adjacent properties.
Chapkl • street Schosl. — The head master of the Cbapel-streeb School wrote answering the .Inspector's comments upon bhe school, pointing out that he did not deeSi ib wise to re-organise the standards just before an examination. The Committee supported the head master's view of bhe question. A letter waa read from the Board notifying that it had been decided
to make additions to the school aba cosh not exceeding £500. Inspectobs' Ueports.—The reports of the Inspectors upon the City Schools showed the following results :—WeU'eßleyBtreeb School: 838 presented, 58t present, 483 passed. Bereaford-sbreeb School: 733 presented, 475 present,. 391 passed. Napierstreet School: 641 presented, 387 present, 325 passed. Nelson-stroeb School: 499' presented, 279' present;. 257 passed^ Clianel-sbreeb School: 249 presented, 149 present, and 111 pasaotL Wellesley-street ScHoot.—The contractor for cleaning this school tendered his Tesignabion, as> he has obtained a situation ab Coramandel.! Tho resignation was accepted, arrangements being made too £11 the vacancy temporarily.
