INQUEST ON MRS MATSON,

(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

Dunedin, Tuesday. The inquest on the body of Mary Matson, found in a lagoon on the banks of the Pomahaka river, was formally opened at Lawrence to-day, and adjourned to the 15th inst. A post mortem was made by Drs. Sutherland and Nichol. The body is much decomposed, and it will be a difficult matter to identify it. Matson and the woman Clark admib thnJfc the body is that of Mrs Mabßon, and it is intended to take up a eister of Mabson to Lawrence in the hopes that she may identify it. The post jrtortem revealed two wounds on the head, but the skull was nob. fractured. Ib is probable that the theory will bo set up that bhe woman wsb first stunned and then tied up in the two sacks and thrown into the river.

Carl Mabson and Hannah Bertha Clark, the prisoners, were brought to i'uuedin tonight and locked up in bhe gaol. It is understood that the evidence gathered so far is somewhat) slender.
