THE MINING DISPUTE.
Stdney, July 6.
The Premier had a lengthy interview with the coal owners to-^ay. Afterwards the owners met privately to discuss Mr Reid's overtures, and embodied a reply in a letter forwarded to the Premier. In this they state that in recognition of his efforts they will consent to give the miners an advance of a penny on the recent ultimatum —that ia, make the howing rate 28 lid. They reiterated tbak bhey had no intentien of breaking up the Union, but they must insist on dealing with the miners directly. They refuse bo give any guarantee against future reductions.
