ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO MURDER.

(by telegraph.— press association.)

Wellington, thia day.

In tbe Supreme Court yesterday, Camille ; Locher was charged with having attempted to murder George Norbury. by shooting him with a revolver in Harcourt's auction mart on the 2uth February lasb. The facta were nob dispubed. Sir Roberb Stout, in opening for the defence, said he would call medical evidence to show thab bhe accused was of a highly neurotic and excitable temperament, and thab her mind had become unhinged by tha financial troubles in which her husband and herself were involved. Her father had been a very excitable man, and her nncle had been confined in a lunatic asylum, which showed her disposition to insanity was hereditary. She bad conceived the idea that she was being persecuted by Norbury, concerning whom she had certain delusions. So far, her husband has been tho only witness for the defence, and his evidence was chiefly devoted to an explanation of his financial transactions. M.B Locher'a case was resumed today, and will, probably finish to-night. Several, witnesses were examined to-day; the defence being on much the same lines as adopted-yesterday, viz., thab the accused was evidently suffering from excitement over financial troubles.
