TO CORRESPONDENTS.

Transplanting Large Fruit Trees and Oak ('Novice').—The plum trees, quinco and flg trees of which you have already cut back the roots can be moved at any time now ; in fact, the sooner the better. The apple trees :It would be better to defer the moving of them till the beginning of next month or till after we have received tho first frosts. When lifting you will require to out all the roots going etraight down into the ground. Thi3 will not matter, as deep-growing roots are not fruitproducing ones aa a rule. Save as many or the surface roots as possible. As tho trees lire very large ones they will requira to be well stayed after planting, so as to keop the wind from swaying thorn backwards and forwards ; where much movement is allowod, very little new root action can take place. Oak : These would easily transplant now, and if they aro as you describe them, it would be better to lift all the roots you can get with them.' After planting, you could with benefit to them cut them back as far aa you like early in the spring. Next season a number of shoots would break from the old stem. These shoots would all require to be removed, with the exception of one. which would make the new leader to the tree. I never knew the gentleman you mentioned in your letter, but I think you could easily obtain his address by applying to Mr S., from whom he bought the farm.
