INDIAN AND AUSTRALIAN MAILS.
London, May 6.
In the House Mr Hanbury, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, said tenders for the Indian and Australian mail services would be invited at a minimum speed of 13^ knots. No European port of call was mentioned, but Mr Hanbury explained that if Marseilles showed better results than Brindisi, the Postmaster-General would be free to choose that route.
Tenders for a fast Canadian-English mail service, to begin in May, 1898, wili be received up to June iotb.
