POLICE COURT- (THIS DAY.)

Drunkenness.—One first offender for this offence was cautioned and Walter Harkins was fined sa,with the option of 48 hours'.

Threatening Behaviour- — David T. Parker and James South wero jointly charged with having on the 25th of April, nsed threatening behaviour in a public place.—Mr Baume appeared for Parker, and on his application tbo case waa adjourned till to-morrow. Alleged Desertion.—John Cusson, on remand, was charged with having on the 17th April deserted bis wife and child at Sydney, and failed to provide tbom with adequate means of maintenance. — Constable Orr, of the New South Wales police force, asked for a remand to Sydney, which was granted.—Bail was refused.

Stowaways. — Arthur Mines, Robert Lloyd, Robert Ramsay, Frank Williams, Wm. Brown, Thomas Enright, and James Williams pleaded guilty to having travelled by the Waihora from Sydney to Auckland without having paid their fare. —The accused gave various excuses in atonement lor the offence, the principal being that they saw nothing but starvation before them if they remained in Sydney, One accused, evidently with the gift of originality, said he came on board drunk, and tho boab loft the wharf before he could geb off again.—Each accused was fined £2 5s (the amounb of bhe fare), wibh the optien of 14 days. Alleged 'Assault. — Alex. Augustus Jones was charged with having, on the 16th April, assaulted Wm. Turner.—lb appeared bhat bhe case was taken in hand by the police to pub a stop to the continual disturbance and bad language of the tramway boys in Wellesley - street. His Worship said ib was a wonder the language used by these boys did nob set the stones on fire. Ib would have to be pub a stop to. —-Th 9 case is to be adjourned pending accused's good behaviour.
