Bad Luck of a Lovelorn Farmer.
William Walsh, a lovelorn Long Island farmer, was in love, and grieved thab he was so homely. He determined, in order to further bis suit with tha rural lass, to go to a beauty specialist and gob bis face ironed oub and polished up. The result was finally that he got it punched, and he landed in a prison cell. Walsh is fortyone years old, lean, lank, cross-eyed, redheaded, and a bright scar runs across his left cheek. He doesn't look much like a • lady-killer.' He weighs only 120 pounds, bub makes ib up in pugnacity and a foghorn voice. The other day he was before Magistrate Cornell, in the Yorkville Court, charged with disorderly conduct in the face-fixer's place.
4 Your Honor,' said W*lsh, ' I wont to this establishment a week ago to have my face fixed.'
' What's that?' asked Magistrate Brann, in surprise.
• I say I went to havo my face fixed. I read an advertisement saying that I could have it smoothed out. When I went there they said they would remove tho scar and I was to pay them 20 dollars, which I did. They agreed to pay the money back if the operation was nob a success. It was not, »c you may see. lam homelier than ever. I went to the place to geb my money back, and three men threw me out.'
The complainant said thab Walsh viaibed bhe office and demanded bhe money back, bub thab as no such agreement had been mado his demand was refused. Walsh then frightened several women by threatening to whip everyone in bhe place and starting in to do ib. So he was ejected.
' This ie a poor way bo collect a bill,' said Magistrate Cornell to Walsh. 'I'll have to fine you three dollars.'
' What 1' shrieked Walsh, in a voice thab made the windows tremble. ' Pay three dollars more. I'll rot in gaol first. I paid twenty dollars to have my face fixed, and I gob it punched instead.'
He was led away to a cell
