WIFE MURDER.
AND ATTEMPTED SUICIDE,
•A SYDNEY SENSATION,
Sydney, November 6. A sad tragedy was reported from Norbh Sydney this morning. The family of Wm. Smith, an Imperial pensioner, werß roused by the screams of their mother, and on proceeding to her bedroom tound that their father had cut hia wife's throat and hia own. The unfortunate woman received an ugly wound, which probably may not prove fatal, but Smith's windpipe is severed, and he is in a dangeroue condition. Smith was until recently a warrant officer of the local forces, but was retrenched, and want of work and fiaancial embarrassment induced melancholia. He had written a letter in which he said he waa tired of the struggle, and intimated bis intention of killing himself, his wife and bis tanaily of sis children.
