CORRESPONDENCE.

RECREATION RESERVE FOR ''* PARNELL.

(To the Editor.)

Sib,—l heartily endoree the efforts of the people of Parnell to secure Campbell't PoinC as a public recreation ground, Th e remarks of the Mayor, Mr G. S. Kissling on the matter deserve the highest commendation, and I am satisfied the representatives of Auckland and its citizens will afford every assistance in urging the Government to immediately set apart this piece of land for the purposes for which it is wanted. Although the Borough of Parnell is fortunate in being bounded on one tide for its whole length by the Auckland Domain, its extensive water frontage on the other side, excepb Campbell's Point, ig private property, and as thie piece of land belongs to the' State, there should be no hesitation on the part of the Government in giving it to the people of Parnell. Now sir, the very same reasons eeb forth by the Mayor and people of Parnell to obtain a public recreation ground with a water frontage within their boroogb, more urgently apply to the great necessity of at once securing Freeman's Bay reclamation ag a public recreation ground for the citizens, as it is the only available piece of water* frontage within the city for such a purpose. As the disposal of Freeman's Bay reclamation rests entirely with the Auckland Harbour Board, and Mr Kfssiing is the Patnell representative mem! . on the Board, and justly credited •.-. ith always acting consistently, let us hops that he will give his entire support to the prayer of the petition which is now being largely signed for presentation to the Harbour Board, asking that body to afford the City Council, should they apply, an opportunity of purchasing Freeman's Bay reclamation at a reasonable price.

I honestly hope the maxim, " A feeling makes us wondrous kind," may actuate the Parnell representative on the Harbour Board with more equal considerations for favours received and expected ia the matter of public reserves than has been already experienced by the action of the representative of North Shore on the Board-—I am, etc.,
