The firab of this season's wool sales at Auckland will be held on December llbh.

In general oufcline the good dairy cow should be rather fine in the head, neck and drops, wide in the chest, large in the barrel and large development in the hindquarters. In their circular dated London July 12th Messrs Nelson Bros, state bhab by the returns for the six months January Ist bo June 30th, 1895, a shortage of 75,812 beasts from America is reported, an increase of 2,664 from Canada, 9,543 from Argentina, and 635 from Australia and other places, but there is a total decrease of 62.970 head as compared with the first six months of 1894. In live sheep, on the other hand, the great increase in numbers is remarkable, America increased her exports from 83,176 in 1894 to 247,143 in 1895, Canada from 9,670 to 10,630, Argentina from 39,496 to 183,827, other countries from 11 sheep in 1894 to 1,448 in 189b, a total increase of 310,705 in the first six months of 1895, and a probable explanation of the great fall in values of Home breds in the lasb few months, which now range about £d per Ib below last year's rates, instead of Id to per Ib above the ruling quotations for many months.

In the colt fche incisor and the first three molars on each jaw are always temporary and replaced by permanent teeth some time during the animal's life. The last three molars are always permanent and are never replaced. The teeth make their appearance as follows :—The two middle incisors and the first three molars make their appearance before or some days after birth, the first laterals four or six weeks after birth, second laterals, or corner teeth, six or nine months after birth, the fourth molar (first permanent ones) ia cut at from ben to twelve months of age. At two and one , half years the middle incifior and the first and second molars are replaced. At the same time the fifth molar is cub. At three and one-half the firsb lateral incisors and the third molar are replaced. Ab four and one half the corner teeth are replaced, and the sixth molar ie cub. In case of a male the canine teeth are also replaced at four and one-half.
