CONFERENCE OF ROAD BOARDS
A conference of Road Boards took place at Papakura in the Public Hall on September sth, to discuss the Local Government Bill, There was only a email attendance. As this was thought to be owing to the insufficient time allowed to discußß the Bill by the locol bodies called, Mr Barber, Chairman of the meeting, proposed thab an adjourned meeting be held on Thursday, September 19th, ab 11.45 a.m., and thab the local bodies of the county of Manukau be requested to consider the Bill, and either send delegates or an expression of opinion to the conference. This was carried, and the Secretary, Mr S. A. Browne, was instructed to advertise the samo in the public press.
Mr Crawford, Wairoa Road Board, moved, " That a resolution be sent to the M.H.R.'e of the districts, pointing oub that in the Manukau County, where the Counties Acb is hung up, the system of managing local affairs is giving better satisfaction than in any other parb of the Auckland province, and is decidodly preferable to that proposed in the new Local Government) Bill." This was carried unanimously.
Another resolution, proposed by Mr Hall (Mangere), was adopted, " Tbab as the Bill, if carried, would effecb changes of such serious and widespread character, the Governmenb be urged nob to press ib forward until local bodies have had an opportunity of fully discussing tho Bill and expressing their opinion on the matter."
The meeting then adjourned,
