POLICE COURT.

THIS DAY.

(Before MrR. S. Bush, S.M.)

Larceny. — William Herbert, a boy ten yeais of age, was charged with having on on the 2nd September stolen 4 school bags, of the value of 2?, the property of Arthur Wright.—The accused was committed to the Burnbam Industrial School at Christchurch until he attained the age of 15 years.

The Education Act.—Eight parents were each charged on bbc information of the Truant Officer (Mr J. S. Small) with having neglected to send a child to a public school. The cases against Robert Coulson, Thomas Dowd, Thomas Tremayne, and Edward Welson were adjourned till the 29th November, on bhe condition thab tbe defendants would send their children to school regularly in tbe meantime. Tbo case against Patrick Hanlon waß adjourned till the 9th September. Mary Whitelaw was fined 4s with costs 7s, and James Davies 10s with costs Vs. Mr Small appeared; qnd conducted bhe prosecution in each case.

Alleged Forcible Entry.—Robert H. Keenan, Wm. Bell, and Wm. Bell, were charged wibh having on bhe 16th Augusb, unlawfully and wibh force entered on the land and meseuaged the property of John Bell, of Chapel-streeb.—The complainanb, John Bell, conducbed bhe prosecution. The bhree accused and he were relatives.—John Bell deposed that the three accused took possession of his place while he was in gaol. He believed the place was sold on the 7th of Augusb. He received a nobice, while in gaol, that ib was to be sold on that day by public auction. Witness then instructed Mr Crippin to take charge of the place in bis absence. When he came out of gaol on the 28th of August, he was told by Mr Crippin that Keenan had taken possession of bhe house, and he was told also thab his goods had been taken away to Tonks' auction mart. A case had been laid against witness by his wife under the Destitute Persons Act, and he was ordered bo pay 30s per week. For nob complying wibh the order wibness was senb to gaol for two monbhs. There was also an order made bhab bhe property in question was to be sold and the proceeds devoted to the wife's maintenance. — Wm. Crippin, accountant, deposed that Keenan, accompanied by Wm. Bell, senior (brother of the prosecutor), and Wm. Bell, junior (son of the prosecutor), wenb bo the House on bhe 16th August, opened the dcor with a duplicate key, and took possession.—The case wa3 dismissed without any evidence for the defence being tendered.
