OWHAROA.

J. G. WARD.

With the increased activity displayed in the opening up of the numerous areas which have been recently floated into companies with a fair amount of working capital to carry on operations, ib is only reasonable to expect that finds probably of a payable characber will be unearthed in one or other of our mining centres. Although the above claim has not, as yet, been formed into a company, it is, I believe, the intention to do so, and with that object in view wo learn bhab some well-known genblemen in Wellington have taken tho property over, and intend floating ib in bho Empire City. The property in question occupies a splendid position in theOwharoa mining district. Perhaps to those who are not acquainted with this important section of our mining world it would be as well to mention tbab Owharoa lies between Karangahake and Waihi, but, if anything, ib is north of the strike of bhe Martha lode, and from tho position occupied by tho J. G. Ward claim* I should say that the courße of that lode should bo in a direcb line with their properby. Ib is a well-known facb that no attempt has as yeb been mado bo discover the Martha reef outside of bhe Waihi district, as far as my, knowledge of this district is concerned, and that extends over a period of 18 years. I have noticed on bhe plains a hard bolt of diorite rock striking due east and west; this, in my opinion, has boon the main fault in preventing tho large and small lodes existing in the Waihi, from retaining their boarings through the country. On the south side of this diorito belt, and approaching tho belt of auriferous country in the vicinity of Owharoa, quartz of considerable value has been discovered at intervals, yeb no one has troubled themselves to discover tho lode that shed this rich oro. The J. G. Ward property is responsible for the production of some very rich oro, and I feel impressed that tho qualiby of the rock ia without exception of a very class, and will probably turn out to bo the southerly continuation of the famous Martha reef. In appearance it resembles the Owharoa ores; still it carries thab deep bluo band, so that any one acquainted with the characteristics of this particular oro cannot help surmising that bhe roof that is responsible for the shedding is ono thab warrants development on an extensive scale. From samples forwarded to Mr Skey, Govornmonb metallurgist ab Wellington, the results were very gratifying, aud the yield proved to bo beyond expectations, viz., 2510z of bullion to the ton. Since then the syndicate have shipped fully 1001b of the same class of ore to tho *arae gentlemen in tho Empire City. This parcel waa raised from close to the outcrop of some large oro body, and from careful observations mado of the locality from where this oro lies scattered on tho surface, ib has the appearance of having been shed from a largo reef well within the area embraced by tho above claim. Quartz can be found lying in a norbh and south direction jusb tho earns aa if ib had been shed from a lode traversing the same course, and I have nob tho slightest hesitation in saying that the lodo ehould bo met with by driving a crosscut due oast ab a depth of 200 feet from tho surface. Any lode traversing through the property on a north or south course would bo intersected in a good permanent class of gold bearing country. Perhapa it is as well mentioned thab the ore is quite unoxidised, and ahould be amenable to cyaniide. Ib will, therefore, be soon that tho position of the J. G. Ward is in a long strip of counbry underlaid by lodes with every possible indication of bein„-gold-bearing country, and on the courto of a known auriferous belt. Ib muab be remembered that this parb of the field is quite intact, and offors excellent facilities for legitimate mining. The continuous finds that are coming to lighb of now quartzbearing lodes and the largo area of undeveloped auriferous leads prove thab bhe extent of our mineral resource in this locality alone is very considerable.—(Gbrreapondenb.) GIGANTIC. The Giganbic licensed holding, which was plaoed on bho local markeb on August 20th, consists of 100 acres ab Owharoa, adjoining bhe Old Ireland claim, which in its turn adjoins the Golden Lion. Tho proßpectus states that this block is on the direct line of roef between Owharaa and Waihi, and that quartz similar to that on the J. G. Ward cluim is found on the surface. Ab a mooting of subscribers held on Augusb 30 ib was decided bo form bhe syndicate into a no-liobilitv company, Tho capital was fixed ab £12,000, in 80,000 shares of 3s each, 65,000 to be issued to the public, and 15,000 reserved for the promoters. The following .directors were elected: —Messrs A. Kidd, Gorrie, H. C. Wick, W. Johnston and J. Smith, Mr Corbetbmade aßbatemenb wibh regard bo the properby, which ho said was in an excellent position ab Owharoa, and ib had thousands of bona of loose quartz on bhe surface. RISING SUN. The Rising Sun claim, situated at Owharoa in bhe centre of tbe properties about to bo placed on the London market by Mr Russell, has been sold to an influential Wellington syndicate. Reports regarding the property state thab the reef has given excellent assay reburns. No shares have been offered on the local market. J. G. WARD G.M. COMPANY. On Sepb. 2nd a meeting of the shareholders "in the J. G. Ward Proprietary claim was held in bhe office of Captain Moms, when ib was derided to form a no-liability company with a capital of £10,000 in 100,000 shareß of 2s each, 80,000 to be issued to bh6 public and 20,000 reserved for the promoters. Colonel Burton, Captain H. Johnson, Mesßrs C. IH. S. McKinney. C. J. Tunks, and E. Edwards were elected directors. GOLDEN LION. A meeting of shareholders in the Golden Lion syndicate was held on Augusb 23rd. lb was resolved to form a noliability company under the name of the Golden Lion with a capital of £10,500 in 70,000 shares ab 3s each, ,nil paid up, also that 55,000 shares bo issued, and 15,600 ro< served for the benefit of the Company.

Messrs A. Kidd, J. J. Craig, A. Barnes, H. Johnson and Captain Smith were appointed directors.
