The Counties' Conference resumed this morning. The election of officers resulted: President/ \Mr F.-A. Majendie, Butt; Vice-Presidentg, Messrs Fraser and Lang : M.H.8.'0; Treasurer, Mr Bolton, Pahiatua; Executive, Messrs McNafa, M.H.R. (Southland), Kebble (Horowheuue) Monkhouse (Stratford), Phillips, (Wairarapa South), Yon Reden (Wairarapa North), Dicken (Pohangina). Mr McNab's motion witb regard to tha borrowing powers of local bodies waa agreed to after a long discussion.
A motion by Mr Yon Reden, " Thab County Councils should have power to levy a general rate, nob exceeding Jd in the £, for the purpose of creacine a fund for the restoration of bridges on county roade," was agreed to. ' '
A resolution was carried, "Tbat the Government be requested to pay rateß on all State" farms." ■ •' -
