She Protests Her Innocence

. Invercargill, this day. Minnie Dean was executed thia morning. She alepb from 11.30 till 3 thia morning, took no breakfaat and only a sip from a glass ot spirita given her by the goal surgeon At three minutes to eight the Bheriff demanded her body. Ab two minutes pasb eighb Minnie Dean Baid " Donb let them keep me in agony, Dr." These were her last words to the aurgeon, asßhe marched from the cell, her arms were pinioned Jbehind, and up the steps of bbc acaffold on to the trap »dopr, ehe waa apparently the moat self-possessed of the dismal procession.
She stood hafcless and erect, facing the weab.
A black board, marking the grave of Walsh, the Waikawa murderer, was directly in front of her, while the hangman adjusted the rope and placed bhe white cap on her.
Then her legß were pinioned and for bhe firsb time the marvellous will power of the woman to a certain extent gave way. She swayed back and forward, holding firmly to the warder's hand.
In reply tobhequestionof the Sheriff "Do you wish to aay anything before you leave this world ?" She 6aid, "No ; except thab lam innocent."
After her legs were pinioned, she said, " Oh, God, let me not suffer."
Tho hangman drew the lever, and all waa over, death being instantaneouß;
To the Rev. Lindsay sho stated thab, as far as the evidence was concerned the sentence was justified, bub she protested her innocence as regards intention and forethought.
