DEVONPORT.
The ordinary meeting of bhe Devonporb Borough Council lasb evening was abbended by Messrs E. 'W. Alison (Mayor), M. Niccol, Duder, Duttori; v Wynyard and Enbriean. - ■-.'■_- ■
Anne-street. —A complainb re bhe abate of Anne-abreeb was referred bo the Foreman of Works. An Account Disallowed. — The Auditor-General wrote reburning bhe balance-sheeb for the year ending March 31sb, which he certified bo wibh a disallowance of £23. This amounb was incurred in connection wibh the opening ceremony of bhe Devonporb Waberworka. —The mabter waa referred to the Finance Commibtee. .. Fire Brigade. — Hallensbein Bros.' tended for bwelve best qualiby fire brigade uniforms waß accepted, bhe price being £43 2s.
Pipes.— Messrs T. and S. Morrin and Wingate and Co. tendered'foe pipes, valves and castings for Devonporb waberworks exbenßion.^-The Mayor-*was authorised to consider bhe tenders, and accepb bhe lowesb.
Notice of Motions.—The Mayor gave notice of motions as follows:—1. Thab a founbain bo erected in the Triangle Reserve. 2, .That.name plates be placed at the corners of all streets in the borough.
PARNELL.
A meebing of the Parnell Borough Council was held yesterday evening. Messrs G. S. Kissling (Mayor), Page, Briggs, Pollard, Savage, Wrighb and Thornes were presenb. General.—Messrs Buddie, Bubton and Co. wrote asking upon whab terms the Council would allow a road through the Hobson Park property to be taken over by tho borough. The width of the road, bhey stabed, was 5Q feet. Cr. Thornes pointed oub the Council had no'power to bake over any road under 65fb in widbh. Ib waß decided to defer bhe mabter until after bhe Council had visited bhe road nexb Saturday weok. — Messrs C. and A. Collings offored to supply street lamps ab £3 4s each. Ib was decided bhab when the.Council wanbed lamps bhey would communicate wibh Messrs Collings. —The Auckland College and Grammar School wrote stating that bhe poplar trees the Council wanted cub down and removed in Alpha Road would be cub half way down. The Council decided to reply bhabas the roobs of bhe trees were pushing up bho aaphalb, bhey wished bhe trees cut downaltogebher.— A requesb from Mr W. G. Bracewell bo have his namo placed on bhe burgess roll was deferred.—Three residenbs of Campbell Terrace soughb permission to planb breeß on the pathway in fronb of bheir houses. Ib was decided bo granb the requesb.— Wibh regard bo Mr Rabbbone]s applicabion re drain ab Campbell Poinb, ib was agreed to give the permission asked for. —The Foreman of Works reported that bo complete bhe work of erecbing bhe wall iri Strand Lane with wood, would cost £16. Ib was agreed to proceed with the work ab once. >
The Water Supply.—The Mayor reported thab he had waited upon the Mayor of Auckland re the mabber of a water supply for the higher levels. Owing to the City Council, however, being much concerned itself aboub bhe water question, nothing definite could bo arrived ab for some bime to come. The Mayor of Auckland had poinbed oub bhab as Parnell were now paying 2d less per 1,000 gallons bhan Newmarkeb, ib was doubtful whether the Council would agree to make any further concessions. Still, he had reason to hope the Mayor of Auckland would meet the Parnell Council in tbe matter shortly.
NEWTON.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the above Council was hold last night,1 when bhe Mayor, Mr R. -Waraock r . presided. There were also presenb:—Crs. Davenporb, Webley, Watson, Lee, Donald and Wilson. Old Mill Road.—A lebber was read from bhe Town Clerk asking bhab bhis road should be repaired.—lb was resolved bhab bhe mabter be attended to.
Accodnts to the amounb of £97 12s wero authorised for payment. Sanitary.—The Inspoctor of Nuisances reported having visited bbc premises previously complained of, and found that something had be.en done to remedy-the evil. Heavy Traffic.—Mr Webley said that wibh regard to the regulation of braffic by bhe licensing of vehicles, he bad been making various inquiries with the resulb bhab he felb rather diffident aboub moving in bbc mabter. Ib was doubbful whether ib would bo really worbh the Council's while bo go into the matter, as in an adjoining borough cases brought against conbracbors, although won, entailed additional expenses on the ratepayers.—The Mayor thought the Council would be wise to let some other body experiment with the by-law as ib appeared very vague. He bhoughb it would be as well to leave the matter in abeyance for the present.—Cr. Webley said as the mabter seemed hedged with difficulties he would nob move in bhe mabter ab presenb.
Repairs were aubhorised as suggested by tho Foreman of Works on the Greab North Road leading down Arch Hill, also footpaths in Mackelvie-streeb, Rose Road, Pollen and Kent-sbreeb ab various places mentioned.—Cr. Lees moved thab five loads of scoria be placed on the footpath ab bhe bop Bide of Kent streets, which was agreed to. On bhe motion of Cr. Wobley ib was de-ided to place two loads of metal in Rose Road aba point indicated.
