NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS.

Sydney, May S.

Ministers are extremely reticent a3 to the financial statement, and nothing definite has leaked out. It is, however, considered certain that Mr Reid will propose the abolition of all Sir George Dibbs' ad valorem duties, and probably the whole tariff of the late' Ministry will be sweptf- away with the exception of the grain duties, which will remain for a time. The re-imposition of a threepenny duty on tea is among the strong probabilities, and there is also some likelihood of the duties on eugar, candles and biscuits being retained. It is not known whether the income and land taz will bo id or Id in the £, bub the former is considered probable. If Sir Henry Parkea takes action regarding the Budget) it will be to move a motion in the shape of a general expression that) the financial pro--posals of the Government are unsatisfactory. By thia means he might.hope to capture the whole Protection party, the extreme Freetraders, and a-section of the labour party.' It is considered that he would have a better chance of upsetting tho Government by these tactics than would Sir 6. R. Dibbs by moving a directvote of want-of-confidence. However,' neither haß yet shown his hand. Should the Government be defeated, it is intended to ask for an immediate appeal toithe country.
