London, March 31.
The water was lumpy, in consequence of astiff head wind blowing yesterday, and Oxford, winning the toss, chose the Surrey shore. Immenee crowds lined the banks of the river. Cambridge was first to get away, bub Oxford led by half a length at Craven's, and increased the gap by another quarter length at the end of the first mile. Hammersmith Bridge, was shot in 7min 38sec. The Cambridge boat, which had shipped some water at Cheswick, made repeated sprints, but without avail, and at Thoneycrofta the rival *crew led by two lengths. After that the race was merely a procession. The defeated crew, who were all new bands, were much distressed at the tiniah. The Oxford crew'contained six old blues. . , '
