TELEGRAM FROM MR REEVES.

This afternoon Mr W. Beehan, Chairman of the Early Closing Association, received the following telegram from the Hon. W. P. Reeves, at Wellington, in reply to a" telegram inquiring as to bhe legality of the mooted proposal in the City Council to ask the Mayor to declare Wednesday the halfholiday in Auckland :— " I cannob possibly say. If they are going to do so they musb take the risk. If they break the law I shall, of course, interfere, bub if they keep within it I cannot interfere.—W. P. Reeves."
