. On the. beat to Worser Bay, the Wai" tangi exhibited splendid pace, and, passing, the Pastime, assumed a strong lead, the Mascotte also coming up and displacing the Pastime. On rounding the. buoy for the run from Worser Bay to the buoy off Pobone, the Waitangi "was 4min in front of the Mascotte, which had nearly^ lmin from the Pastime, the Maritana being hopelessly in the rear. If anything, the Waitangi increased her lead on the run to Petone. while the Pastime crept up on the Mascobte until there, was very little distance between them. There is now a fine, steady breeze, suitable for all classes of boats, and unless it blows very hard in the afternoon,, of which there seems very little probability, the Waitangi will keep her lead and win easily. In the second-class race, the Napier yacht Atlanta has a good.lead, the Isca ia second. After the starb Atalanta was lying far in the rear, bub as the wind freshened, she had no difficulty in improving her position. ...

On the beat from Petbne to the Queen's Wharf buoy, completing the first rouud of the course, the Waitangi increased her lead, rounding the buoy about ten minutes ahead of the Alascotte.
