Hamilton, bhis day, WELCOME, RAINS.

On Friday heavy rain seb in aboub midday and ib continued almost withoub intermission up to Saturday evening. The downpour will do a great deal of good bo the turnip crops and also to grass lands bub has delayed bho harvesbing of bhe oab crops, many of which are now fully ripe and wanb gathering in.

The supply of milk to bhe various factories does nob increase much and bhe final resulb of tho season's oubpub will hardly be up bo expectation. Notwithstanding the heavy rains the Waikato River has not risen much, and no damages are reported from any part of the district.

THE MODEL FARM.

V esterday the Waikato County Counci' resolved to drain the model farm reserve down bhrough Te Aroha-sbreeb, Claudelands, where bhe work had been abarbed some time since, bub waa sboppad on accounb of bhe caving in of the drain through meeting pumice sand in bhe bottom. When drained the reserve will be a firsb class piece of land, and bhe outlay will pay the Council well. Their intention eventually is to start a model farm, with perhaps an agricultural college in connection with the same. In the meantime they will lease the land at a payable rental for grazing purposes. •

HAMILTON BRIDGE,

Tenders are to be called for shortly for removing six spans of the Hamilton traffic bridge, and replacing the same with an earth embankment, the Governmenb having granbed £400 for bbc purpose, which will be eupnlemented by the local bodies concerned to the same amounb. This expendibure of £800 will put the bridge in good, order for many years bo come.

NATIVE LAND PURCHASE.

I hear from Oborohanga that the purchase of native landsis going on rapidly,and thab ere long several blockß will bo avail' able for sebtlemenb.
