NORTH SHORE REGATTA.
There appears to be every likelihood of the projected regatta ab the North Shore early nexb year, as the proposed revival of this aquatic carnival is being received with considerable enthusiasm in bhe snburb of Devonport. A largely-attended meeting was held lasb evening in the Dsvonporb Council Chambers, the Mayor of the borough, Mr E. W. Alison, presiding. Mr Alieon stated that bhe business before bhe meeting was the reviving of the North Shore Regatta. They would remember that) a regatba was held there in 1882, and it waa the mosb succesful affair of the sorb yeb held in bhe City of Auckland. The receipts were very large, a3 also were bhe expenses, ib being a large nnderbaking bo introduce bhe Maori element, which was so great an attraction. All the nabives had to be provided for during their stay in town, and ib would be necessary to well consider this matter. If tho work was energetically prosecubed ib would, without a doubt, be as greab a success as tho regatta of 1882. lb was desirable that a regatta in which the Maori element would ■te the prime factor should be inaugurated, ,-w that bhose who wore unable to go a long distance to see the manners and customs of the Maoris should have an opportunity 'R«wn ■them of witnessing whab would Perhaps soon be a bhing of the past—bhab "as a war canoe race. Mr C. C. Dacre gave ah accounb of bho lasb regatta, and produced the books and papers connected with tho event. The war dance of the WMves alone contributed a large sum of money. Ib was agreed bo geb up a war canoe race if possible, and it was explaiued wet it was necessary bo geb free passes by toain forthe Maoris. It was resolved thab » Committee be appointed to obtain full information a3 to the number of nabives - likely to take part, finance, etc., the Come nittee appointed consisting of bhe Mayor, Duder and Gibbs, Messrs H. ■.*»**, A. Alison, R. Duder. G. S. Gra"Bm, H. Rees Geor K e, W. Svyanson, jun.. ■•'■'*■■ H. Duder, W, Lind, H. Hoffmann, T. McEwin, A. Mays, C. Bailey, .0. O. Dacre, s'ford, W. E. Anderson. H. J. Oliver, and .{* wynyard. Mr C. C. Dacre was elected secretary pro. tern.
