AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
Thk usual fortnightly- meeting of tha. Auckland Harbour Board was held yea' terday afternoon, Mr A. H. Nathan (Chairman) presiding. Fkeeman's Bat Reserve.—lb was resolved, "Tbab the Finance and Legal Committee be the Commibtee v to meet and confer with the City Council. Mr Alison reminded the members that "the Finance and Legal Com* mifctee was not authorised to make any arrangement, bub simply to diacusß the matter with the Cifey Council Committee. Damage to Schooner Queen. Devore and Cooper, solicitors, .wrote that Captain Thoß. Jones, the owner and master of the schooner Queen, declined to accepo the offer of £20 without prejudice made by the Board. Their client would be prepared toaccepb £42 in full of all claims.— Mr Devore left the room while the matter was being considered. — Referred to the Finance and Legal Committee ko report. CoKKESPONDENCE.—It waß agreed to repair the broken davits on the wharf used by the wafcer police boat. The Helping Hand Mission were granted use of an allotment in Customs-street to erect a tent for gospel and temperance meetings. Mr T. B. O'Connor wrote forwarding an accounb tor £18 2a 3d, from Mr Moren,. engineer, for repairs to Priestman's dredger, and aeking bhab the Board pay same.—Referred to the Works and Tariff Committee, the Foreman of Works to reporb. Mr Alberb Sanford wrote requesting a new leaßO of the half of lob 63, Alberb and Customs streets, for the remainder of the term. Ho also wished a clause inserted in the new lease whereby the Board shall pay the lessee for improvements ab the end of the term.-Referred to the Finance and Legal Committee. Mr Withkfobd's Absence. —The matter of Mr W iiheford's absence was reported fco the Board by memo, from the secretary.— Mr Napier said the Board was a dying one, and suggested that Mr Wibheford be granted leave of absence till the end of hie term.—The Board eventually agreed to bake no action. Reports.—The reports of the Works and Tariff and Finance and Legal Committees were adopted without discussion. Salakies of Okficeks.—The salaries of officers of tho Board for the ensuing year were considered. In ?eply to a question by Mr Devore, Mr Napier said the new system of book-keeping adopted by the Board had boen carried oub faithfully by the officers. Ib was his duty to say Mr Brigham had spared no pains in inaugurating the new scheme, and he had laudably carried oub the wishes of the Board. The new system was now thoroughly established. The ledger would show at any moment the value of the property ot the Board, and the real estate was valued !at something like £28.000. Tho system inaugurated was working smoothly, and the balances come oub to a Id. Ib was premature ab the preeenb time for the Committee to say what amalgamation of offices could take place, or whether the services of any officials could be dispensed with. Taylor, £108; night watchroan, W. J. Watts, £130 ; chief storekeeper, W. Skeen, £150 ; storekeeper, C. E. Brown, £130 (increase of £10); storekeeper, W. MeCormick, £100 ; storekeeper, F. Sims, £26 ; engineer (Auckland Dock), W. Wood, £150 ; fireman (Auckland Dock), C. Finlay, £110; fireman (Calliope Dock), A. Eagleton, £108; weighmaßtcr, W. A. Cnwsn, £130 (increase of £10).—Mr Laird's application for an increase was deferred until March noxb.—lb was agreed that Captain Duder be paid for his services as harbourmaster, dock-muster and wharfinger ab the rate of £300 per annum from the 30th September to 31ab December, 1894. TKXUEBS.-~The following tenders were received for the extension of the Quaystreeb Jetty:—R. B. Marbin, Emmottstreeb, Ponsonby, £2,489 Oa 9d ; Cameron and Watson, Cook-street, £2,490 9s 9d ; Richard White, Hargreaves-ebreob, £2,533 2s lid. The engineer's estimate was £2,550. The tender of R. B. Martin was accepted. Nelson - street breastwork : Samuel White, £121: D. Gouk, £133 18a ; Elliot and Mathieson, £129 ; Cameron and Watson, £108 ; Cousina and Earlly, £107. The tender of Cousins and Earlly was accepted. Hobson - street breast - work: Cameron and Watson, £157; Elliot aad Mnthieson, £190; Cousins and Earlly, £187; Samuel White, £166; D. Gouk, £192 15s. The tender of Cameron and Wafceon was accepted.
Next Meeting.—The next meeting of bhe Board was fixed for January 8, 1895.
