NEWS FROM SAMOA.
RUMOURS OF WAR,
A FIGHT REPORTED,
The Samoan " Weekly Herald," of December Ist. to hand today from Apia by the s.s. Upolu, says :— " During the last week disquieting rumours have been afloat as to the proposed warlike intentions of the rebels of Aana and Atua, who have lately sent a letter to. Apia announcing their intention of once more starting the war, and of re-occupying the forts ab Luatuanuu, lately destroyed by the warshipa. This information is by no means unexpected, and the action, has, no doubt, been hasteoed by the Jiasca in connection with the visit of the Land Commission to Lufilufi. When the oabives of that district saw, thab bbeir resistance to the .Commission was allowed to pass, comparatively without notice, they, of course, concluded eibher that fear prevailed, or that the guns of the warships would nob b|,turned againsb their present detiant action. " A rumour reached Apia yesterday that a fight between the contending parties had taken place ab Lefaga, and thab one or more had been killed. Ib is nob yah certain whether the quarrel was a political one, or in reference to disputed lands at the place in question."
