HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

ELECTION OF- CHAIRMAN,

A meeting of the newly-constituted Hospital "and Charitable" Aid Board was hold this afternoon for the purpose of electing a Chairman for the forthcoming term. The members presenb were : Messrs J. Bollard (Chairman),, G., S. Kissling, J. Stichbury, J. Bfuce, Swales, P. Dignan, J. Gordon, J, M. Leniiox, F. M. White and Heskebh. Mr Bollard said he had great pleasure in proposing Mr P. Dignan as chairman of tbe newly'appointed Board. A few years ago Mr Dignan had the honour of being in that position, bub. owing to his health breaking down at the time he had to resign.. He thoughb from the manner in which he (Mr Dignan) carried oub the duties of the office that.ib was only right to give'him the opportunity of filling the position again. Messrs BrUce, Lennox, Swales and Kissling expressed themselves in favour of the, \ motion, which was subsequently pub and carried unanimously. ■ Mr Bollard,- in vacating the chair, said be wished to make a few remarks about the proceedings of the Board during the past year. He was sorry to say thab they had nob been a very happy fomily. He did nob wish to go into details, bub merely to say bhab he sincerely hoped that during the ensuing year they would be able to .work more harmoniously together. He thought if unreasonable contention wore avoided the Board would stand i better in the eyes of the public. There bad been a great deal of comment passed on bhe way the Boatd was carrying on its business. He was nob going bo blame anyone, as he was partly to blame himself, bub he could only say bhat if he had given any offence bo anyone during bhe pasb year he waß very sorry for ib. Ho had some of bis wa'rmesb friends on bhe Board, and if he bad opposed them at any bime and any ill - feeling had arisen, he had only done whab he considered to be his duty in carrying oub bhe work of the Board. With these remarks he declared Mr Dignan to be duly elected.
