. Shanohai, December 4. The Japanese are preparing for further attacks, and their transports are moving in a westerly direction. It-is believed that the Mikado will claim a higher indemnity and a more onerous guarantee than China has offered.

The United States Government has demanded that the six Great Powers should, under section 61 of the Berlin Treaty, intervene in the strife between Japan and China.
