Drunkenness. — One woman was dis charged with a caution
Fighting in Queen-street. — Arbhur Elliott Duke and Stephen South were each charged with having.created a disturbance in Queen-street by fighting.—Both pleaded "guilty in self-defence."—Evidence aB to the fight was given by Constable Eastgate, Peter Gomez and Eden George.—The accused Duke stated thab the boy called him names.—South said thab ib was anobher boy, and bhab Duke seized him by bhe bhroab and then he fought in self-defence. — The Bench sentenced Duke to one month's imprisonment with hard labour, and Soubh to fourteen days. Subsequently tbe defendants were recalled and Duke was allowed tho alternative of a £5 fine, and South one of £2 10s. Time was allowed in which to pay the fine. ■ A Severe Sentence.—James Evans was charged wibh being found by night without lawful excuse upon the premises of Thomas Gibby.—Prisoner pleaded guilby, and Baid he wenb inbo the closeb as he waa unwell.— Consbables Pardy and Bailey deposed bo arresbing bhe man ab 3 o'clock this morning. They saw him go into the closet, and arrested bim aboub ten minubes afterwards. —The Bench remarked that bhere was a bad record againsb the prieoner.—Defendanb eaid that of late he had been trying to geb an honest living. Ib would simply break up his home if he were senb to gaol.— The Bench sentenced the man bo two months' imprisonment with hard labour.
The Alten Road Disturbance.—John Cubhberbson was charged with having on the 7th of October, used threatening behaviour in Alten B.oad. Sergeant Gamble said this waß connected with tho case for which others had been dealt with by the Magistrate. Ho would, therefore, ask for a remand.—The Bench adjourned the hearing until to-morrow, bail being allowed.
A Deserter.—Alberb J. Parr pleaded guilty to having deserted from H.M.s. Wallaroo, and was ordered to be sent on board H.M.s. Royalist.
Stray Horses. —Joseph Winter pleaded guilty to his horse being on unenclosed ground, but as he had never been before the the court, the information was dismissed with a caution.—Joseph Whitley was fined Is and costs 9s for having allowed -his horse to stray.
By-Laws.—On the application of Mr McGregor, the cases against Samuel Martin leaving a hackney carriage unattended, and without a light, were adjourned until next Tuesday,
