ON FIRE IN DOCK.
DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £500. COVERED BY INSURANCE. (SY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
Dunedin, this day. A fire broke out on board the Union Steamehip Company's c.c. Mararoa at 3.30 a.m. to-day while ahe was in dock at Pore Chalmers undergoing the periodical ovorhaul.
The fire had a good hold, and flame was issuing from the vessel by che Dime the Fira Bridage arrived on Sh6 scene.. After an bour'i battle the firemen got the tire under.
The damage done to the Mararoa ia estimated" at £500. ■
The oiigin of the fire ia aft present unknown. An hour before the outbreak, the night watchman passed the vessel, tnd he states, that ail then appeared to be right,
Tha chief officer of the Mararoa was in tho engine-room »fc 6.30 p.m. yeaterday, and everything thes appeared safe. The damage done is amply covered by the Union Steamehip Company'? own insurance fund.
