BOXING MATCH.
corbett: meets fitzsimmons.
A recent cablegram from London, published by the 'Australian Star,' states that James Corbett, champion of America, haa accepted a challenge from Bob Fitzsimmons, the New Zealand middle-weight champion. A deposit of £1,000 has been made in connection with the fight, and a meeting is to be held in New York, ab which iinal arrangements will be made. .
The meeting of these two clever boxers, says the Australian " Star," will be watched with considerable interest; The occasion will be the champion's first appearance since he defeated Charlie Mitchell in the fight for the championship of America. Ib will also be the first time for many years that a . middle-weight) has entered the ring to contest for championsship honours against a heavy weight. Australian ring goerß will take especial interest in the match, as Fitzsimraons hails from Timaro, New Zealand. Since be went to America he has never differed defeat). He commenced by winning' the middle - weight; championship, and since then has met and beaten men in all classes. His latest victory was ovef Dan Creedon, one of his own countrymen.. Fitzsimmons is considered, to be equally as clever as either Peter Jackson or Corbett. His disadvantage in his coming contest will be thab he wants over two' stone in weight; in 'comparison . with his antagonist). However, he is a phenomenal middle weight. He stands' about six feet high and has a tremendous reach. He should make a very bold bid for victory, even with such a brilliant boxer as J. J. Corbett, who waa the first to lower the colours of John L. Sullivan.]
