OUR CYCLISTS.
CASH AMATEUR CLUB FORMED.
A meeting of cyclists for the purpose of forming a cash amateur cycling club -'in Auckland, was held in Kobson's Rooms 1m: evening, when about thirty attended. Mr W. Skeatß presided. ■ MrLaDez stated that he had called ti meeting for the purpose of forming a cbfu amateur cycling club in Auckland. Hs explained thab those who joined the proposed club would competed for cash or trophies to the value of the prizo money, instead of only trophies.' In fche South- riders had become ditsstisfied with the trophieß offered, and the cash amateur clubs that had been formed had s met with great success. By giving caeh for prizes many young men bad beet enabled to go in for the sport properly. The speaker abated thab more races wero held in this colony by the cask cyclists than, * by the amateurs. The CycliatB 1 Union allowed no betting ab the race moetinga held under their auspices. Mr Young, also an ex-Christckurch rider, eaid that the caeh amateur system was undoubtedly ft g«?' , f Buccesß in Christchurch, . and other ■ towns, and he Baw no reason why such* clnb should nob be a success in Auckland. He considered the time would come when all wheelmen would join cash Btai" beur clubs. ~ ~ > . Mr Surman considered there were not enough racing cyclists in Auckland to form two clube. As far as he knew »" . Auckland wheelmen were quite 'satisneo with bhe local Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club, and were content to ride for trophies only.
