ST.JOHN'S WESLEYAN CHURCH
The anniversary soiree of St. John's vVealeyan Sunday-uchool was held last evening in the Church, Ponsonby, and was largely attended. After tea iv the schoolroom, ah adjournment was made to the Church, the Rev. C. H. Laws presiding over the after mooting. Mr Godfrey, Honorary Secretary to the Sunday-school,read the annual report, which stated that the number of scholars on the roll at present was 264 (161 girls and. 103 boys), with an average attendance of 173. Fifteen of these are members of the Church. The stair of officers and teachers consists of 13 males and 14 females, 20 of whom are Church members. There was greab difficulty in obtaining, teachers who were able to devote their time to the morning school, there being at present only two, in addition to the superintendent. The school library consisted of upwards of 500 volumes. Some addition's had been made during the year, and Mrs Griffiths, widow of the late Mr W. Griffiths, had donated 63 volumes. The Band of Hope bad had some successful gatherings, and there were 39 active members of the Christian Endeavour Society, with eight) associates and tiye honorary members. During the year £10 had been subscribed for foreign mission purposes. A boys' club in connection with the church had 50 members. The balance-sheet, as presented by the Treasurer, Mr C. Bartley, showed that the receipts for the year had amounted to £75 2s 9d, and the expenditure to £73 0 sd, leaving a credit balance of £2 2s 4d. During the evening addresses were given by the Chairman, the Revs. D. McNicoll and others. The school-children sang special hymns under the leadership of Mr C. Bartley, aided by the church choir, Mr Horsiey acting as organist.
