THE NEW HEBRIDES.
EXPECTED ANNEXATION BY
FRANCE.
■ Sydney, September 25. A private letter from the New Hebrides states that there is a confident feeling among French residents that France will shortly annex the group. It is possible that the foundation for this feeling lies in the fact that a certain section of the Parisian newspapers recently asserted that Great Britain was by no means adverse to withdrawing from the dual control, providing that the island was not used for convict purposes. On the other hand tbe British community assert that the feeling of the Frenchmen is merely assumed.
