AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board was held.this afternoon. Mr A.;;H. Nathan (Chairman), presided. Present: Messrs Niccol, Farrell, Napier, Wright, McCabe, Holland, Henderson, Alison, Devore. Accidents to Steamships. —The Marine Department at Wellington wrote drawing attention, to cases 'having recently come under the notice of the Department, in which accidents to bteamsbips had not been reported to the Minister of Marine, and drawing attention of shipowners to Section 210, of " The Shipping and Seamen's Act, 1877." Takapcna Wharf. — The Minister of Marine wrote that the Governor had approved of the plan of the proposed wharf off Lake Beach, Takapuna. , Admiralty Reserve.— The Town Clerk of Devonport forwarded a resolution passed by the Council to the affect that the Admiralty Reserve ab Devonport be vested in the' borough as a reserve and that the borough give in exchange 5 acres of land ab the Narrow Neck.—Consideration was deferred. ; .. , •

Berthing Accommodation. —The Northern s.e. Company asked the Board 'to give effect to recommendations bhey hod made in July, 1893, relative to improved berthing accommodation for the shipping of the port.—Referred to bhe Works and Tariff Committee. \

Pumice Sand.—Mr J. C. Firth asked that the wharfage rate on pumieo sand be reduced to 2d per ton (railway) weight.—lb was egreed to treat wharfage on pumice the same as ironsand (20 sacks to the ton).

Wool and Skins fob America.—Mr Thomas Henderson, branch manager of the Union Steamship Company, asked thab in view of shipments of wool and skins arriving from Southern ports for trans-shipment to San Francisco and the eastern States of America, the Board would make a special rate for wharfage and storage.—Referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. ' ;

A Complaint.—Mr J. M. Syms, of the Hauraki Steamship Company, wrobe returning what he termed "a very objection-ably-worded memo." from the Secretary. Mr Syms added " that he was always ready to meet any demands, and thoughb thab when the renb was only aboub omin in arrears, the Secrebary should have some little discretion and nob demand paymenb in such an autocratic manner."—The memo, sent read as follows :—" As your renb is now in arrear, I beg to requesb payment of amount due on or before the 20th instant, otherwise the matter will be reported to the Finance and Legal Committee for instructions." .".

Barnabas Point.—Mr James Slater drew attention to the sbate of bhe weabern cliff of Sb. George's Bay (Barnabas Point), which he stated is in a dangerous condition. .

Hobson-streeT Wharf. —-Mr John Mackay, "master-of the barque Northern Chief, wrote asking the Board to have Hobson-street Wharf declared a legal landing place. He said the Customs Department made a greab favour of allowing vessels wibh cargoes of coal fbom Newcastle to discharge ab Hobson-street Wharf. —On the motion of Mr Henderson ib was agreed that the Commissioner of Customs be requested to declare Hobson-streeb a legal landing place. A Request.—Mr Angus Campbell, master of the Examiner, wrote ' that when he landed his cargo of timber ab Hobson-streeb wharf, he did nob anticipate ib would remain there longer than one week or 7 days, so he did not make enquiry, about charges for; wharfage and storage. _ Considerable deiay had occurred in rershipping the oargo in consequence of the Examiner having been condemned, and ho asked that the charges be made as moderate as possible under the circumstances.
