♦ The inclemency of bhe weather milibated considerably againsb a good abbendance ab bhe usual monbhly meeting of the Elders and Lay Preachers' Association, which was held'at Sb. James's Church lasb evening. The Presidenb (Mr Brownlie) occupied bhe chair. A resolution was carried protesting againsb the proposed running of bramcars on Sundays. Ib was decided bo forward a copy of bhis probesb to the City Council. Rev. Mr James Hill, of Devonporb, then read a carefully-prepared paper on the " Chicago Parliamenb of Religions." After a brief accounb qf bbc Conference, Mr Hill stabed the differences of the estimate of its results thab had been expressed, and gave as his opinion thab bhe evil bad been far greater than the good, being fitted as it was to confirm the idea in non-Christian nations that Christianity is. only one religion among the many. There were pointed out some of the essential differences in Christianity from other religions and the objections to the place which doctrine has in Christianity, prevalent in bhe world ab bhe presenb day were considered. An animated andinteresting discussion followed. A vote of thanks was passed te Mr Hill for his valuable paper, and an unaminous wish expressed thab ib should be printed ab an early date, -
