CRICKET MEETINGS.
NEWTON CRICKET CLUB.
A mosb enthusiastic meeting of bhe Newton G.C.. was held in the Newton Congregational Sunday-school lasb evening, a large number of members and intending members being presenb. Mr Wood presided. Mr Diddams (Secretary) read bhe annual reporb. This showed bbc Club played 13 matches, winning 11, and been defeated twice. Mr G. Walker headed bhe batting, with bhe splendid average of 45.5., Messrs Rowe and Holden being almost equal for bowling honours wibh 5*2 and 5 4 respectively. Mr Holden was successful in winning Mr McLean's medal .for most catches during the season. A hearty vote of thanks to last year's' officers, especially Messrs Diddams and Smith, who retire from office, was recorded. The following gentlemen were elecbed to office for ensuing year: — Presidonb, Mr G. Court; Vice-Presidents, Messrs McKerras, McLean, Wood, E. Sexbon, Nickelson ; Capbain, A. Rowe (re-elecbed); Vicecapbain, L. Hoyes (re-elecbed); Treasurer, Mr Winn ; Secretary, Mr H. Hounsell. Mr F. Diddams was requested to stand for re-election as secretary, bub declined, for private reasons. A vobe of bbanks was proposed to Mr Diddams, and also to Mr Smith (late treasurer) for their services. During the meeting Mr Holden' was presented with a silver medal, given by Mr McLean for bhe mosb catches for the season. A large number gave in bheir names as : members, and the Club haa every prospect jof a mosb successful year.
