. • Napier, this day. At the S.M. Court this morning, Frederick and Harry Dennett, of Hastings, for doing damage to property, were remanded to Wellington. Frederick Dennett was further charged with breaking and entering, on September lsß,' the Hastings Post Office, and stealing therefrom a safe valued at £10 and sums of money and stamps. The accused was remanded to Hastings, bail being allowed, himself £200, and two sureties of £100 each. Wellington, this day. Shortly after the steamer lonic passed Farewell Spit yesterday morning, Mr Fletcher, a saloon passenger, died from apoplexy. He was attacked on sbh September, and never rallied. Deceased was London manager of Chambers' Publishing Company, and booked his passage to New Zealand for the sake of his health, and also to see a brother and sister who reside in Dunedin. Sir Walter Buller has received from the King of Italy the insignia of Knight Commander of the. Crown of Italy, and a covering letter from the Secretary of State saying this high distinction, hitherto bestowed by His Majesty on few Englishmen, is conferred "in token of his royal consideration towards the illustrious scientist, and of his royal appreciation of his learned work on the birde of New Zealand." , Invkrcargim,, this day. Richard Duffey hao been committed for trial on a charge of having attempted suicide by stabbing himself.
