NOT LIKELY TO EVENTUATE.
THE PREMIER INSISTS ON INDE

RUMOURED CABINET DIFFER

(BY TELKGBAPH.—PARLIAMBSTABT RE'
PORTER.)
Wellington, this day. The "Evening Press" on Saturday published in its leadings columns a rumour thab diasenßiona had arisen in the Cabinet over the banking amalgamation proposals. It was Btafced thab very strained relations existed between Messrs Seddon and Ward through the Treasurer endeavouring to pursue a course of action which the Premier would not endorse, becauee of Us dangerous character. I may say that there is not one iota of truth in this rumour. On the authority of the parties mentioned 1 can state that the relations between them have nover been more cordial, and as to the banking proposals being the cause of discord, I know for a fact thab tho Premier and his_ Treasurer are entirely at one on the position the Government will take up. That position, I understand will be made known to-night, when the repiy which the Governmbhb proposes should ba returned to the proposals of the banks will be laid on the table.
Aba meeting of the Cabinet on Saturday the matter was the subject of a long and careful discussion, and tho matter will ultimately be sottled at another meeting at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
The exact terms ot the document I am not yet in possession of, but can abate with certainty that the Government will ineufc on a thorough independent scrutiny.
