NEWMARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual mooting of the Newmarket Borough Council was hold last night. Contractor.—Mr T. Lupto.n. wrote thab circumstances having arisen beyond his control he asked tho Council to accept his son's name as contractor instead of his own. —The request was agreed to, subjecb to the sureties being the same. TcatfOooK.— The special committee ap pointed to consider the 37 applications for the position of turncock submitted tho following eight names to the Council:—Jas. Howell, Arch. Anderson, J. L. Chambers, Jae. Rogers, W Thomas Kingstone, J. A. Mahoney, J«mes Wilson, Thos. Leitch.— The Council room was crowded with interested spectators.-'-There was a heated discuision among the councillors.ad to whether tho name of Mr Wilson should be,submitted to the Council, and it Was proposed by Mr Laurie that the reasons for termination of his engagement be read.—This was negatived on the casing, vota^of the Chairman. A ballo* wastaken with the result that Mr Anderson waß elecfced and appointed to the position—The B&Ury is £2 2a per week.
