ATHLETIC CLUBS.

ANNUAL MEETINGS.

ST. GEORGE'S BOWING CLUB. Thebe was "a good muster of members at the eleventh annual meeting of the St. George's Rowing Club last evening. The report for the pasti year was eminently satisfactory, and was, with the-balance-sheet, adopted without discussion. The Club is in a very strong financial condition. On reference to the balance-sheeb ifc will be seen the statement shows a debit balance of £45 10s lOd, but in the balance of assets over liabilities, after making, liberal allowance for depreciation, the Club is able to claim the substantial amount of £317 2s 2d. The membership roll now numbers 103 members. The following is the lisb of boats at present in the boat-house :-rOne outrigged clinker four, one racing string-test four, three four-oared clinker inrigged practice gigs, two double sculling boats, two pairoared boats, two sculling boats, one whaleboat, and a pleasure boat. They are all in good order, and ready for next season. The Club was represented in the three local regattas, and was very successful, winning the sum of £46 in prize money. The thanks of the Club are due J», Mr H. R. Bloomfteld for his able coaching of the regatta crews. Two sets of Club fours were held during the season, for trophies presented by Messrs S. T, George and W. \T. Philson, and made very interesting races, eight crews contesting each Bet. The winners were : Ist. Messrs W. Brodie (stroke), H. A. Marriner (3), H. B. Gordon (2), A. E. Johnston (bow). 2nd. W. Brodie (stroke), A. McHardy (3), H. Whitley (2), A. LeMaistre (bow). ■ The Challenge Cup presented by Mr C. F. Thomas was rowed for this season in double sculling boats, and was won by Messrs H. A. Marriner {stroke), and F. J. Hull (bow). Mr S. T. George, Chairman, then read a telegram from Mr J. Coates (late manager of National Bank), who is patron of the Club. Mr Coates, though now resident in Dunedin, takes a great interest in the Club, and his telegram was to offer a challenge cup to the Club. Mr Coates is sending full particulars as to conditions by mail to Mr George. , The news was received with great enthusiasm.

Mr George then said that he would again be pleased to present trophies for competition for " Club fours," bub on the strict condition the coxswains should be picked as the crews were picked. A register of coxswains should be kept and it would be the cox's duty to geb his crew together and have the boat ready. He would also give some medal or cup for the coxswain under these conditions. Ib was also announced that a challenge cup for the new single sculling boats had been presented by a member of the Club. It is to be rowed for in a handicap race. To obtain possession of the cup, it muet be won twice in succession, or three times at intervals.

Mr George, in speaking of the doings of the past year, congratulated the Club on its financial position, and the success in regattas. He would like to have seen the senior crews more successful, and said that if men were picked for a crew they should recognise that they must either sacrifice some yachting or inform the Committee that they were going yachting and would not be able to row. To take a place in a crew and hot to attend practices was unfair to the rest) of the crew and the club.

The question of shed-room would soon have to be faced, and the advisability of sending crews to Wanganui to the championship regatta.
