CITY BY-LAWS.
(To the Edibor.)
Sir,—-Id reading the letter of complaint from Mrs Daldy and others to the City Council for permitting overcrowding of houses in Mark Avenue, off Grey-streeb, I must say the Council appear to bwisb bheir building regulations into every form and fashion.
Some time ago there was a great complainb made in the Council for allowing an iron building bo be erected between Queen and Elliott-sbreebs, contrary bo the regulations. Then recently there was another row over the erection of an iron workshop in Alberb-sbreeb, erected conbrary to bhe regulations, and at this presenb bime bwo old dilapidabed buildings within bbc area of the building regulations are now having the boards pulled off, and re-instated with new ones. They face a right-of-way near Alberb and Durham sbreebs, and their renewal is, I think, tbe more objectionable on the ground of nob fronting a main etreeb, I would ask whether the building regulations permit of the renewal of wooden houses in this way, because if they do, then ib is absurd bhab such a fuss should have, been made aboub brifling infracbions of the law. Better abolish bbc brick area albogether, and leb everybody who likes build in wood. I invibe bhe attention of Councillors to this matter.—lam, etc., Ratepayer.
