At the Doncaster September Meeting, to-day, the 118 th contest for the St. Leger Stake's took place, with the following reButt:— The St. Leger Stakes, of 25sovs each, for three-year-olds ; colts 9sb, fillies Bsb 11 lb. The owner of the second horse to receive 200aovs, and the third lOOsovs out of the stakes. Old St. Leger course (about one mile, six furlongs and 132 yards). 213 subscribers. ~ Sir F. Johnsbono's b f Thrbsble, by Petrarch—Thistle 1 Lord Rosebery's b c Ladae, by Hampton— Illuminata 2 Baton de Hirsch's b c Matchbox, by St. Simon—Matchgirl 3 .[The result of the Doncaster St. Leger furnishes another illustration of the glorious uncertainties of the turf, for the coveted " red ribbon " was annexed b}* a filly almost unknown to fame in the English racing world, viz., Sir F. Johnstone's Throstle, while the inuch-tal.ked-of colt Ladns had to put up with the unenviable position of second. In the early part of the season the Prime Minister's colt carried all before him, but during the lasb four months he has had his wings clipped on all sides. At lasb accounts, the friends of Ladas had not lost faith in the slightest degree in the colt's ability to annex the St. Leger, so that his defeat will be a bitter pill to many. Throstle started three times last season, bub failed to catch the judge's eye.]
