Weblington, this day. At a mooting of the Councilof the Chamber of Coininorce a letter was read from 'the Antwerp International Congress on the subject of Customs legislation and the labour question. The letter was referred to the Government. A letter was read from the Minister of Commerce informing the Chamber that; an exhibition of samples is to be held at Johanneaberg, and asking if any interest is likely to be taken in mis mattor in this colony. It was resolved to write to the Minister informing him that the Council will be pleased to second any eflorts of the Government in the direciion of securing samples of the products of this colony at bbc "exhibition. Tha Colonial Secretary j sent n letter on the eubject of the beet I sugar industry, promising consideration of the proposals of the Chamber. It was decided to nek the Treasurer if the matter was under consideration of the Cabinet, and to urge that there is a possibility ot the industry being started if recommendations are given effect to, and tbat the matter should be dealc with during the session of Parliament. It was loeolved, " That the Chamber ie of opinion that the proposal to make use of the official telegraphic vocabulary for Code cablo obligatory, and the treatment of any words in the existing commercial codes thac are not in the official vocabulary as secret language, and the suggestion to charge there for every three letters as one word, will prove inconvenient and expensive to commerce and the interests of the colony, and suggests to the Government that euch an important and (Jrastic alteration as contemplated should not be made until the mercantile community of the colonies have been afforded an opportunity of being heard at the next periodical Council of international delegates ;" " That in the opinion of this Chamber it is essential in the due administration of justice to all classes of the community tbat all District Court Judges and Stipendiary Magistrates with extended jurisdiction should hold their appointments during their good behaviour, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Hon, the Minister of Justice."' i
