THE ENGINEER BELT.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—Sapper Allen wishes members of the Company and the public to express their opinion and answer whether bhe belb voted to Major Anderson ia in the right place. I fired for ib and won ib, bhe firßb bime ib was fired for. Major Wibhers presented ib, and sbated at the time thab if I won ib twice in succession or three times ab inbervals bhab it. would become my own properby. I fired and won ib the next bime, making ib bwico in succession. After two years I handed it over to the Company, as I knew they were nob in a position to give another £35 for anobher belt. I then fired again and won ib twice more in succession on two different occasions. The following year I lost ib. The nexb year I won ib again, making in all seven times. I consider thab I have the mosb righb to it. Ib is nob a suitable gift for Major Anderson. I have been in bhe Company twenty years, and never knew Major Anderson to fire a single shot. By kindly inserting the above you will oblige —Yours, etc., Daniel Allen. Jervois Road, Ponsonby. [We aro informed thab bho belb referred to was purchased by the Company to be fired for annually. There never was any condition in firing for the belt that it was to become the property of any person who might win ib twice in succession, or three timea ab inbervals. Major Withers made a mistake if he made such a statemenb in presenting ib to Sapper Allen. On bhe disbandraenb of the corps, the Company resolved to presenb the belt to the captain, which waß done, the captain promising to hand ib over if an Engineer Company if ab any time re-formed.—Ed. E.S.]
