ECCLESIASTICAL.

At St. Benodict'B yesterday the Very Rev. Father Downey discoursed on the virtuos and life of St. John the Baptist, whoae festival was being celebrated. The music sung at the High Maßa compriaed Weber's Mass in G and Meyer's " Ecce Pan's." The latter composition was sung ab the offertory by Rev. Dr. Egan and Miss Lorrigan, who, together with Misa Brannigan, Moaars Thomson and Young, interpreted thevarious soloa of the Maaa. In the evening the P_ev. Grazory preached again on the subjecb of devotion to the Sacred Heart, and bhe choir sang- appropriate pe-lec.ions. At the offertory the Rev. Dr. Egan and Mica Lorrigan sang Fauro'a famous " Cl'ucifixus," other soloists being Madamo Tutschka, Miasea Brannigan, O'Gara. and Carrigan.

A memorial aorvice in connection with the death of the late Mr W. Griffiths, an old member and officer of St. John's Wealeyan Church, was held in the Church last evening. There was a large attendance. The devotional exercises were conducted by the Rev. C. H. Laws. The sermon was preached by the Rev. E. Best, who took for his text I. Theas. iv., 13. The reverend gentleman's discourse was of a most impressive character and was attentively listened to. Mrs Goodson sang " He Wipos the Tear From Every Eye," and the choir, under Mr Horsley, sang the anthems " What are These" aud "Vital Spark."
