In the Legislative Assembly, Mr Isaacs moved the second reading of bhe Libel Bill, which he said was intended to safeguard newspapers publishing accurate reports of meetings. Tbe Treasurer opposed the Bill, and in doing so said many of the newspapers had abused tbeir powers. He urged thab all articles should be signed, and papers licensed, so thab if any one of them wantonly offended ib could be suppressed. The Attorney - General opposed the measure, contending that the press had already too much power. The debate was adjourned.
