PONSONBY WARD.
(To the Editor.) t ~.„ .. . Sir, —Mr Jenkins, in his letter of last evening, statoß thab the City Engineer reported that tbe cost of works in the Marine Parade, Ponsonby, would be £100. The following is bhe Engineer's verbatim reporb on bhe lasb petition received, and I am informed also on former petition :—" The formation would cost hundreds oi pounds. Do not think the Council would be warranted in spending a large sum in formation here;" Mr Jenkins adds bhe rate' payers concerned have paid rabes for 20 to 25 years. Ponsonby Ward has only been within the City for 12 years, and the amount of rabes from this vicinity with few buildings could nob amounb to any important sum yearly.—l am, eta, Facts.
